The Store
That Helps
Build Homes
Habitat ReStores stand as nonprofit havens for home improvement enthusiasts and socially conscious consumers alike.
Operating under the umbrella of Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia (Habitat DC-NOVA), these ReStores
play a pivotal role in supporting the organization’s mission to provide safe and affordable housing for families in need.
Locations
Habitat DC-NOVA oversees three
ReStore locations strategically situated
in Alexandria, Herndon, and right here in
Chantilly. These outlets serve as vibrant
hubs where individuals can access
discounted furniture, appliances,
home furnishings, goods, and
construction materials.
Operating Hours
Open six days a week, Monday through
Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays
from 9 AM to 5 PM, the ReStores cater
to the public, fostering an inclusive
environment where community members
can shop sustainably.
Donations
The heart of Habitat ReStores lies in the
generosity of the community. Habitat
DC-NOVA welcomes donations of
new and gently used items from both
individuals and companies in the local
area. By accepting these contributions, the
ReStores play a crucial role in diverting
items away from landfills, contributing to
the reduction of the estimated 12 million
tons of furniture that might otherwise meet
such an unfortunate fate.
Environmental Impact
Choosing to donate to the ReStore
is a conscious decision to minimize
environmental impact. The ReStores
recycle donated items, allowing them to
find a second home and preventing them
from contributing to the alarming volume
of waste in landfills.
At the core of their operations, Habitat
DC-NOVA relies on the dedication of
thousands of volunteers each year. These
volunteers contribute their time and
efforts to tasks such as sorting donations,
organizing the stores, and providing
crucial customer service, all of which are
essential components of the ReStores’
Habitat for Humanity Programs:
Beyond the ReStores, Habitat for Humanity
of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia
tackles the critical issue of affordable
housing. Targeting families making 30-
80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), the
organization’s homeownership program
empowers families to achieve their dream
of owning a home. Additionally, the home
repair program provides vital support
to seniors and adults with disabilities,
enabling them to age in place with dignity.
Conclusion
Habitat ReStores, in collaboration with
Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C.
& Northern Virginia, exemplify a powerful
model of community engagement
and sustainability. Through their varied
approach of recycling goods, volunteer
involvement, and addressing the pressing
need for affordable housing, these
initiatives are building not just homes,
but also hope and stability for generations
to come.
We here at Chantilly Living and the
community at large, thank Habitat DCNOVA
for all their hard work. CL
