Fall Fun

by Grace Schulte

With fall comes all kinds of new opportunities for arts and crafts. I remember loving leaf art when I was a kid. Here are a couple fun arts and crafts activities perfect for fall!

Activity # 1

This first activity requires you to press the leaves before the actual crafting step. Go outside with your kids and pick as many pretty leaves that you’d like to include in your leaf arts and crafts! Place each leaf within a section in a book, leaving pages between each leaf, and then stack some more books on top. Leave it for about a day or two. If you leave them for too long they might get brittle.

You’ll need a piece of poster paper. The size doesn’t necessarily matter, but you can always start with something slightly larger than printer paper. Take your favorite pressed leaves and simply glue them on the paper however you like! Let this dry completely. Once dry you can frame it!

Activity #2

This activity does not require you to use pressed leaves. In fact, the results may be better if you don’t use them. You’re going to want to lay down a plastic sheet over whatever work surface you’re using though because we’re breaking out the paint! Any paper works, but poster paper slightly larger than printer paper is a great place to start again.

Start by painting one side of a leaf. Then, place it onto the paper so the paint leaves an imprint when you take it away. Repeat with other leaves! Experiment with different leaves and colors. Leave it to dry. Once it’s completely dry you can frame it!

Don’t be afraid to get a little messy this fall. Embrace the changing seasons and the opportunity to get outside before the weather gets chillier!
