A letter to our Readers

September 2023

As the sun dips lower in the Chantilly sky, the lazy days of summer begin their bittersweet farewell. It might seem as if the neighborhood pools are echoing with laughter for one last weekend, and the parks hum with families squeezing in a final picnic. Backyard barbecues carry the scent of charcoal and memories. School buses have appeared on the streets, reminding us of the impending routine. Yet, amidst endings, there lingers a promise of cozy fall evenings and pumpkin-spiced reunions. The warmth of summer will be cherished in the hearts of every Virginian. Avoiding the danger of overly romanticizing the Chantilly summer, we look to fall with optimism and pay homage to our back-to-school heroes.

Amidst the whirlwind of the ever-changing back-to-school landscape, these heroes—teachers, parents, and young families in Chantilly—have showcased remarkable resilience.

Let’s not forget the strength, determination, indeed, the courage these individuals displayed over these past few years. Navigating the blend of in-person and virtual learning, teachers and parents became master jugglers, seamlessly switching from math problems to video calls. Parents transitioned from organizing impromptu science experiments in the kitchen to transforming living rooms into interactive classrooms, proving that learning doesn’t stop within school walls. Zoom PTA meetings evolved into platforms for connection, fostering a sense of community. Families united to support one another, sharing innovative strategies and uplifting stories of triumph.

Now, as school bells ring once again in 2023, we can be grateful for the simple yet life changing provision of in-person learning!

We hope you enjoy this month’s cover story. Aizlinn Tyrie is an amazing young entrepreneur who loves to travel and enjoys living close to Dulles airport. She shares that whenever she returns from her trips and gazes through her plane’s passenger windows, she finds herself exclaiming, ‘Yeah, I live there.’ Check out her story!

As a reminder, please consider the importance of shopping locally and extending your support to the businesses in Chantilly, especially those that play a pivotal role in bringing this magazine to life.
